"Bruno Mars: 24K Magic Live at the Apollo" was an amazing merger of the historic Apollo theater, which has housed innumerable legendary acts, with one of the biggest and most timely music icons, Mr. Mars and his band of "Hooligans".
"This was an extraordinary show to be involved in," says Deni. "The intimacy of the theater enabled this extraordinary performer to interact with the entire audience - which he did beautifully. "
One of the highlights of the show had to be the band performing on top of the Marquis of the theater. "As far as I know, this had never been done before. It took the concerted efforts of many different specialists (structural engineering, specialty lighting, and pyro-technicians) to make this particular element a success." remembers Deni. "We literally stopped traffic—and the excitement of passersby as they realized what they were witnessing was palpable."
It took a vast mount of technology and expertise to pull this stunt off: The team built specialty rail cams and towers, and set up a bucket crane which moved Mr. Mars up and around an ecstatic, dancing audience. As the New Yorker put it in their glowing review: "The crowd - which, according to the camera pans, was comprised mostly of very beautiful women—went completely bonkers. Girls were tossing their hair. No one was remaining in her seat."
Bruno Mars reminds us to feel good. And this special, and the team behind it, managed to capture that good feeling and broadcast it from Harlem to the world.
