If you caught the Netflix hit apocalyptic film “Birdbox”, or the HBO psychological thriller mini-series “The Undoing” (and at this point, who hasn’t), then you’ve seen incredible paintings by Lily Morris. For both films, Lily worked with Director Susanna Bier to create character-driven artwork: For “The Undoing” she painted a portrait of Nicole Kidman's character "Grace", in "Birdbox" she created the paintings that fill the studio of Sandra Bullock’s character "Malorie". But Lily’s success in Hollywood is only one small part of her story and breathtaking creative catalogue. Her 2017 series “American Dream” (depicted in part here) gives us a window into the lives of the rich and famous, with a dark twist. “I find myself depicting people at a moment when their social interface falls away and they exist in a state of innocence,” Morris says about her work in an interview with MV Arts & Ideas, “free from the need to externalize and define themselves consciously and culturally.” [Please note: Images have been cropped to fit this feature's formatting.
